ROYAL FREE LONDON NHS FOUNDATION TRUST
WE’RE JUST NOT THE SAME AS EVERYBODY ELSE. GREAT, ISN’T IT?
THE MOST SWITCHED ON TRUST IN THE NHS
It normally takes six months to create a hand sanitiser from scratch. When Covid-19 struck, our people did what they do best and found a way to complete the task in just four days. Then, we shared our unique expertise in treating Ebola to help the nation tackle the epidemic. However, it’s not just in times of need that we lead; innovation is firmly in our DNA.
We were one of the first hospitals in the UK to provide free healthcare
We became the first hospital in London to accept women as medical students
We performed the first UK transplant between an adult live donor and an adult with acute liver failure
We were the first to introduce new imaging technology for breast cancer
We were the first neuroendocrine tumour unit in the UK to be awarded the status of European centre of excellence
We were the first in the UK to have a high level isolation unit for infectious diseases
SHARPEN YOUR SKILLS ON THE CUTTING EDGE
The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s biggest and most innovative trusts. Across three main hospitals, our dedicated army of staff care for over 1.6million patients, treat more than 200,000 in A&E, deliver over 8,000 babies and carry out more than 17million tests.
Our size, scale and influence offer you unrivalled career opportunities and a forward-thinking approach to working that works around your lifestyle. From flexible hours and generous benefits, to next level training, we make it easier to take your career to the top.
REINVENTING CONVENTION SINCE 1828
When a freshly qualified surgeon William Marsden discovered that he was unable to arrange treatment for a penniless young woman, he challenged convention and established a hospital that would take in anyone who needed treatment – the first hospital in London of its kind. In 1837, the hospital was granted the title ‘Royal’ by Queen Victoria in recognition of being the only hospital to stay open during the cholera epidemics.
WANT TO WORK WITH A LOAD OF ROBOTS?
It’s not every day that you carry out a kidney transplant alongside a surgical robot, and rewrite the medical textbooks. Then again, we’re proud to say that nothing about working at the Royal Free is average or ordinary.

DIFFERENCE IS JUST ONE OF THE WAYS WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE
With hundreds of distinctive cultures, characters and skills working under the same roof, the Royal Free is a world-class hospital that feels anything but sterile.
As a staff member, you’ll work, learn and collaborate with people from every corner of the globe and enjoy a vibrant, colourful working environment. You’ll also be actively supported – personally and professionally. And reap the rewards of being part of an organisation that is committed to help you succeed.
VALUES THAT RECOGNISE THE VALUE OF PEOPLE
Being welcoming, respectful, reassuring and communicative is the Royal Free way. However, our values are far more than just buzzwords. They shape who we are, how we treat each other and how we approach care. Chosen by patients and staff these values underpin everything we do.
A COMMUNITY SHAPED BY ITS PEOPLE
Equality, inclusivity and diversity are woven into the Royal Free story and we’re immensely proud of the diversity of our workforce. To ensure a fairer and more diverse working environment for all, we created four dedicated staff networks.
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans staff network
Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic Groups staff network
Women’s network
Ability @ the free staff network
These dynamic internal channels help to define the Royal Free’s unique sense of community, shape our staff experience, simplify learning and drive continual change.
